House Rules: Thaumaturge Paths

Thaumaturge Paths Cap

  • Contrary to the book, CN has ruled that player must select (1) Primary Thaumaturge Paths as their "focus" in chargen. At no point can any additional paths ever be equal to or higher than their Primary Paths value. Players may purchase additional paths in a sequential tiered order, with no additional path ever outranking or equaling the level of the path purchased prior.
  • Example: Susan has wishes to purchase the Path of Curses as their Primary "Focus" Path and raises it to '3'. Susan later learns the Path of Divination. However, Susan may never raise Path of Divination higher than 2 as long as Path of Curses remains at level 3. If Susan raises their Path of Curses to '5', she can eventually raise Path of Divination to '4'. However, Susan will never be able to raise Path of Divination any higher than '4'. If Susan later purchases Path of Healing, the max level that Susan can ever achieve for Path of Healing would be '3' -- providing that their Path of Curses is at '5' and Path of Divination is at '4'.
  • Thaumaturge Paths & Ghouling

  • Ghouled Thaumaturge do not lose connection to their Paths. Instead upon ghouling the characters Paths become frozen, just as their physical form. Paths possessed by a ghoul cannot be raised for any reason and will be permanently lost once a character is embraced.
  • Characters who lose Thaumaturge Paths during the embrace will not be refunded XP spent.
